The latest findings on volunteering were released this week as part of the Giving Australia 2016 report. South Australians have come out in front again with statistics showing that four in 10 volunteered last year, averaging 168 hours, which is 30 more hours than the second place-getter, New South Wales.

In July the senate passed Senator Skye Kakoschke-Moore’s motion calling for the government to develop a national volunteering strategy. We are pleased to announce that Minister Porter has acted on the motion asking his department to discuss developing a national strategy with Volunteering Australia. This is a win for volunteers who contribute so much to our community, great recognition for South Australia’s and one that I’ll join Senator in watching closely.

NEW National Standards for Volunteer Involvement
Volunteering Australia's new National Standards for Volunteer Involvement were launched on Monday 11 May 2015. The new Standards incorporate significant changes to the original standards in order to reflect best practice in volunteer management in Australia's current work environment. The new Standards provide a sound framework for supporting the volunteer sector in Australia. They are easy to follow and are adaptable to different types of organisations and forms of volunteering which reflect the diversity of this growing sector.
