    The volunteering statistics from last year’s Census have been released, showing the Northern Territory rate of volunteering dropping below the national average, to 17.1% - which however, is up from 16.6% from the last Census in 2011. In addition, there are many people in the NT who volunteer informally, perhaps not recognising themselves as volunteers. This information is not captured in the Census and we will continue to work on improving people’s understanding of volunteering.

Every year, 70,000 volunteers throughout the NT give their time freely to hundreds of organisations, communities and individuals. It is important that we recognise these people for not only their time but for their talent and the great work they do for the NT.
