Having good social connections are essential for all aspects of health, especially as we age. Red Cross supports older people who live alone or who have few social connections, people with disability and people recovering from mental illness to help improve their wellbeing.
Red Cross social connection programs matches individuals that might benefit from regular social contact with a caring and friendly volunteer. As part of this program you will take part of home visits, social outings, group activities and be part of friendship groups.
As part of our social support programs you will be providing support to community members that require companionship. If you have a warm and friendly nature, good communication skills and are happy to take part in social activities, this might be the perfect volunteering role for you.
As a Social Support Volunteer, you will make a difference to those people in your community that are in need of a friend while helping them develop their knowledge and skills. You will also have access to ongoing training opportunities and the chance to learn about and contribute to the community housing sector. Whatever your motivation, volunteering at Red Cross is valuable to us and rewarding for you.
